About Us

Both Dr Patel and Dr Ang are highly experienced dental practitioners with Dr Patel specialising in paediatric dentistry.  We offer a broad range of dental services in the northern suburb of Woodvale. A friendly team of dental therapists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and reception staff support them.

Fully qualified and highly skilled Dental Technicians that are based in Perth are used to manufacture crowns, bridges, implants, dentures and orthodontic appliances. So you can be assured that the quality if of the highest standard.

Their goal is always to provide the correct diagnosis and advice with the aim that each patient achieves an optimum state of dental health, allowing them to function normally and be free of discomfort. Although all aspects of modern dentistry are offered, patients with more complex needs outside the scope of general practice are referred to dental specialists. This is to ensure that every patient is in receipt of the best possible care.

Meet The Team

DR. JILEN PATEL

Jilen is a highly regarded Specialist Paediatric dentist who is heavily involved with teaching, dental public health initiatives and clinical research at the University of WA and the Perth Children's Hospital.  He is a senior lecturer at UWA and has been a consultant at PCH since 2018. He is passionate about providing care to underserved communities and has been involved with the design and implementation of programs for preschool children, refugee families and remote Aboriginal communities. He recently received the national outstanding young dentist award by the ADA for his contributions to the profession.

Jilen completed his undergraduate dental training with honours at the University of Western Australia and after several years of general practice went on to specialise in Paediatric Dentistry through UWA and the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. During his training he received the Alistair Devlin Scholarship to work with and develop community child dental health programs in Cambodia and Indonesia. This work led to publications on novel methods of triaging children with severe caries risk and the suitability atraumatic restorations in children. He subsequently completed his PhD through UWA recieving the prestigious Syd Dobbin AM Grant with his focus being on improving dental services to remote communities. This led to the development of the first evidence-based continuous quality improvement framework for volunteer dental services based on a decade long partnership with remote Aboriginal communities. He maintains an active research portfolio with current projects involving novel remineralisation agents, teledentistry and paediatric hospitalisation rates.

Jilen enjoys communicating scientific evidence in a way that is simply to understand for everyone whether it be clinicians or the wider community. To this end he has received both the Royal Australasian College Emerging Lecturer Award and the Australian Dental Association/Pierre Fauchard Academy's Young Lecturer Award for his research and teaching in clinical dentistry. He also received a University citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning for “the use of innovative blended strategies to unravel contemporary evidence and inform best practice care in cariology, dental public health and paediatric dentistry.

Jilen is an alumnus of the Senior Dental Leadership program, a collaboration between King's College London and Harvard School of Dental Medicine and has received fellowships from the Academy of Dentistry International, International College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy.

DR MICHAEL ANG

Michael graduated in 2000 at Otago University in New Zealand and has since had experience in both hospital and private practice environments. He moved to Perth in 2011 following a successful career in Melbourne.  He has been working at Castlegate Family Dental since the move to Perth and sees both adults and children for general dentistry.  Michael is also a proud father to daughters Marissa and Emersyn and in his spare time can be found at the beach or supping down the river.

Michael graduated in 2000 at Otago University in New Zealand and has since had experience in both hospital and private practice environments. He moved to Perth in 2011 following a successful career in Melbourne.

Michael enjoys all aspects that general family dentistry offers. The treatment he provides includes cosmetic dentistry, crowns/bridges and implants, dental extractions, dentures and night splints, mouthguards and root canal treatment.

He has a particular interest in endodontics or root canal treatment and uses the most up to date techniques and continues to attend professional education courses to further his abilities in this field.

Michael is member of the Australian Dental Association and abides by their Code of Ethics. Along with Dr Foster he also provides dental cover for the Western Force rugby team.

OTHER INTERESTS

Michael enjoys the outdoors and as a student in the South Island of New Zealand subsequently combined his passions for traveling. In the last few years he has trekked the Inca trail of Peru, Sapa hills of Vietnam, Northern valleys of Chiang Mai and Mt Kinabalu.

Like most kiwis, he grew up close to the ocean. He has his father to thank for his passion for water sports, spending many hours of his youth snorkeling, scuba diving, boating, fishing and surfing. Rugby, well its the main religion in New Zealand and he is a proud All Blacks supporter.

Michael has a keen interest in photography and in the past combined this passion with travel and food. Since moving to Perth he has tied the knot with his wife Dolly and is a proud father to his daughters Marissa and Emersyn.

DR. ANN_MARIE POTTS

Dr Ann-Marie Potts graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1995 and brings over 20 years of dental experience to her role. She spent much of her career practising in the UK, including 15 years as the owner of a successful family dental practice.

Since relocating to Perth in 2015, Ann-Marie has worked across the Northern Suburbs. She has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Restorative Dentistry through the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry and has a strong interest in gentle, high-quality restorative care.

Known for her warm and caring approach, Ann-Marie is committed to patient-centred dentistry and ensuring every patient feels comfortable and well informed. She is a proud member of the Australian Dental Association.

Outside of work, Ann-Marie enjoys golf and endurance sport, having completed multiple triathlons, including the Busselton Ironman.

DR.ROBYN WHITEHEAD

Robyn graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Honours) from the University of Glasgow in 2016. She practiced in Scotland before moving to the Netherlands in 2021, where she continued to develop her skills as a general dentist.

Fluent in English and Dutch, Robyn values clear communication and strives to ensure patients feel comfortable in her care. She has a particular interest in helping patients with dental anxiety and helping children build a positive and trusting relationships with their dentist to build the foundations for life long oral health.
 
Robyn is committed to ongoing professional development and enjoys the variety of general dentistry. Outside of work, she enjoys running and travelling to explore new cultures and cuisines.

DR. DYLAN DEL FRATE

Dylan has recently joined the Castlegate Family in 2025.  He graduated from The University of Sydney and has a special interest in paediatric dentistry.  Returning to Perth he wishes to help serve the community that raised him. He has a strong sense of community contribution having been a member of surf life saving, a swimming teacher and also a senior first aid trainer. Outside of dentistry Dr. Del Frate is passionate on longevity, health, fitness, psychology and philosophy.

Dr. Dylan Del Frate earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from The University of Sydney with clinical skills refined in Westmead and Sydney Dental Hospital. He has achieved national board recognised certification for both Australia and Canada. He has gained valuable experience working as a clinician in Yellowknife, the North West Territories province of Canada, helping those in need locally and from distant remote communities without access to dental care. He also was the sole provider of dental services in North Slave Correctional complex (jail) which he believes gave life-changing insights to the need and importance of oral health care despite one's life journey.
 
Returning to Perth he wishes to help serve the community that raised him. He has a strong sense of community contribution having been a member of surf life saving, a swimming teacher and also a senior first aid trainer. Outside of dentistry Dr. Del Frate is passionate on longevity, health, fitness, psychology and philosophy readings and activities, with the belief great oral health is one of many facets to living a great life.

LUCY - DENTAL THERAPIST

Originally from the UK, Lucy moved to Australia in 2013 and studied oral health therapy at Curtin University. She has spent many years working at the school dental clinics, and has a special interest and lots of experience treating children.
Lucy as a Mum to 3 boys and 2 girls, so she loves spending as much of her spare time with them exploring Perth.

ESTHER - HYGIENIST

Esther graduated from Curtin University with an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene in 2010. She has a strong passion in providing exceptional patient care with empathy and a gentle approach. Esther is dedicated to making every patient feel comfortable and confident in their oral health journey. 

Outside of work, she is committed doing volunteer work at the local church. She loves nature and spending with family and friends.

Brenda - Senior Dental Nurse

Brenda has been a wonderful addition to our team after completing her dental nurse training with us. She did so well, we kept her and now she is training other new dental assistants.  You will also see her on reception and also down at Southbank with Dr Patel.

Elvira - Front Office/Dental Nurse

Elvira joined the Castlegate team in 2025 and has progressed to be an integral member of the team.  She has a dual role as front office and dental nurse so you will no doubt see her friendly face!
